About the WRX
Subaru split the WRX from the Impreza in 2014, which was either a promotion or a divorce depending on who you ask. The VA generation earned its keep. The FA20 turbo boxer replaced the ancient EJ, bringing better throttle response and fuel economy that didn't make you wince. The STI stuck with the EJ257 — because tradition, or because Subaru couldn't be bothered, take your pick. Either way, the VA was the last of a recognizable lineage. Four doors, hood scoop, AWD, manual gearbox, and enough power to get you in trouble on a wet roundabout. Then the VB arrived and the internet lost its mind. The STI was dead. The styling polarized everyone. The hood scoop remained but felt like a consolation prize. Here's the thing about the VB that nobody wants to admit: it drives well. The FA24 makes good power. The chassis is stiffer. But Subaru killed the STI, went automatic-optional, and wrapped it in bodywork that looks like it was designed by committee. In a segment built on emotional attachment, that's a dangerous play. The WRX name still means something. Whether the VB deserves it is the argument that will never end.
