About the Camry XV40
Sixth-gen Camry, and Toyota tried to make it interesting. The 2AZ-FE made 158 hp, the 2GR-FE 3.5 V6 pushed to 268 hp with dual VVT-i, and the Camry Hybrid arrived with 187 combined hp and 33 mpg. The V6 was genuinely quick, hitting 60 in 5.8 seconds. The chassis was tuned for more engagement than the XV30, with stiffer springs and better body control. The interior got a two-tier dashboard design that divided opinion. Materials improved with available leather and a navigation system. The XV40 was the best-selling car in America for several years running because Toyota kept making incremental improvements to a formula that worked. Not exciting enough for enthusiasts, not flashy enough for luxury buyers, but exactly right for everyone in between.
