About the Corolla E100
The E100 Corolla arrived in 1991 and went front-wheel drive across the entire range. The 4A-FE 1.6 made 105 hp, the 7A-FE 1.8 hit 115 hp, and efficiency was the priority over excitement. The chassis was competent in the way Toyota chassis always were: predictable, stable, and engineered for the widest possible range of drivers. The interior was functional and well-assembled. Toyota was building Corollas in plants around the world by now, and the E100 was designed to be manufactured consistently everywhere. The Levin and Trueno sport variants got the 4A-GE 20-valve at 160 hp, the last hurrah for the twin-cam Corolla sports car. The E100 was the Corolla that became the default car. The one your parents drove, your driving instructor used, and your taxi came in.
