Toyota gave the E170 Corolla a bolder face and a wider stance for 2013, but kept the formula conservative where it mattered. The new 1.8 Valvematic engine was smoother and more efficient than what it replaced, and the CVT — while not exciting — delivered strong fuel economy numbers. The Corolla S trim added sportier suspension tuning that actually made a difference in corners.
