About the Corolla E70
The E70 Corolla ran from 1979 to 1983 and was the generation that proved Toyota could make a rear-drive economy car handle. The 4K and 3A engines were small and efficient, making between 60 and 100 hp depending on market. The Levin and Trueno variants got the 2T-GEU twin-cam at 115 hp, genuinely fun in a car this light. Rear-wheel drive with a live axle, MacPherson struts up front, and a curb weight under 900 kg. The liftback body style looked good and offered real practicality. The coupe was the sporting choice. Toyota sold millions of E70s because they started every morning, rusted slower than the competition, and cost nothing to maintain. The E70 was the Corolla before the Corolla went front-drive and lost its sporting character.
