About the Hilux N10

The N10 was Toyota's first Hilux, launched in 1968 as a small utility truck for the Japanese market. The 3R 1.5-liter engine made about 70 hp, plenty for a vehicle that weighed under a ton. Two-speed transfer case available for four-wheel drive models. The bed was small, the cabin was basic, and the whole truck was built with the assumption that it would be used hard and maintained rarely. Toyota exported the N10 to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, where it earned the reputation that every Hilux since has coasted on. Durable, cheap to fix, impossible to kill. The N10 wasn't designed to be legendary. It was designed to be useful. The legend came later, built one hard-working decade at a time.
