About the 5 Series E34

The E34 was BMW's first real grand touring 5 Series. Bigger than the E28, more refined, and packed with technology that was cutting-edge for 1988 — electronic damper control, traction control, and a V8 option for the first time. The M5 got the S38 hand-built inline-six with 340 hp and individual throttle bodies. Even the 520i felt planted and precise in a way that Audi and Mercedes couldn't match. The E34 sold for eight years and aged gracefully. It's the generation that convinced a lot of people BMW made the best sedans in the world.
