About the 5 Series F10
The F10 5 Series went digital in ways the E60 only hinted at. The N55 turbo six made 300 hp in the 535i, responsive and refined. The N20 four-cylinder in the 528i was the efficiency play at 240 hp, adequate but not what a 5 Series buyer really wanted. iDrive generation 3 finally worked the way BMW always claimed it did. The driving dynamics split opinion. Electric power steering replaced hydraulic, and the purists noticed. The F10 was softer, more comfort-biased, heavier. The M5 got the S63 twin-turbo V8 at 560 hp and a proper manual option in the US that almost nobody ordered. As a highway cruiser and daily driver, the F10 was near-perfect. As a driver's car, the E39 still cast a long shadow.
