About the Camaro 5.7 V8 Z/28 (295 Hp) RWD
The 302 DZ wasn't a 350 with a shorter stroke — it was a 327 block with a 283 crank, purpose-built to squeeze under Trans-Am's 305-cubic-inch displacement limit. Homologation special, pure and simple. 295 horsepower through a 4-speed manual to the rear wheels. No power steering. No air conditioning. The Z/28 wasn't optioned for comfort; it was optioned for lap times. The 6.7-second sprint to 100 km/h doesn't tell the full story. This engine wanted to rev, and the chassis wanted to turn. In 1967, that made it an oddball. By 1969, it was a blueprint.
