About the Focus
The Focus was Ford's proof that an American company could build a world-class compact car — and in RS form, a world-class hot hatch. The original Focus arrived in 1998 with independent rear suspension and handling that reviewers called "European," which was the highest compliment an American compact could receive at the time. The second generation went global. The third generation added EcoBoost turbo engines and an interior that finally felt like it belonged in the segment. But the Focus RS is why enthusiasts care. The Mk3 RS packed 350 hp, all-wheel drive, and a drift mode into a hatchback that looked like it was late for a WRC stage. It was raw, loud, and completely uninterested in refinement — a car built by engineers who clearly won an argument with the marketing department. Ford pulled the Focus from the US market in 2018 to focus on trucks and SUVs. On Revnut, the community ranks the generations that made the Focus more than just a commuter car.
