About the Mustang S550

The S550 was the Mustang that grew up. Independent rear suspension replaced the live axle, the chassis could actually handle corners, and the Coyote V8 made enough power to embarrass cars costing twice as much. Ford kept the muscle car identity — big engine, rear-wheel drive, available manual — but wrapped it in a platform that could compete on a road course. The EcoBoost four-cylinder brought new buyers in. The GT kept the faithful. The S550 proved the Mustang didn't have to choose between heritage and ability.
