About the Mustang SN95

Ford took the Fox body Mustang and tried to modernize it without actually building a new car. The SN95 got updated styling that rounded off the edges, an independent rear suspension option that never materialized for most trims, and the same 5.0 pushrod V8 making 215 hp until 1995. Then the Modular 4.6 SOHC arrived with 215 hp and less character. The Cobra variants saved it. The '93-'04 Cobra R, the '99-'01 Cobras with the quad-cam 4.6, and the Terminator with its supercharged 4.6 making 390 hp — those were the SN95s worth owning. The base cars were fine. Competent, affordable, everywhere. But the platform was stretching the Fox's bones past their expiration date, and everyone knew the S197 couldn't come soon enough.
