About the Civic Type R EK9

The first Civic Type R went on sale in Japan on August 22, 1997, the third Honda to carry the badge after the NSX and the Integra. Honda started from the SiR three-door and developed a new 1.6 for it, the B16B: 185 PS at 8,200 rpm, or 116 PS per litre without a turbo, with the rev limit raised to 8,400 rpm. The car sat 15 mm lower than the base model, its brakes grew an inch front and rear, and a helical limited-slip differential went on the front axle. Red Recaro seats and a 368 mm MOMO wheel were standard, and a five-speed manual was the only gearbox. With power steering it weighed 1,050 kg. Honda never sold it outside Japan.
