About the Civic Type R 1.6 B16B (185 PS) FWD
The B16B doesn't make sense on paper. 185 PS from 1,595 cc with no forced induction, peaking at 8,200 rpm. Honda's answer was simple: make it rev and build every component to survive there. VTEC engagement isn't a gimmick in this engine - it's the entire personality shift. Below the crossover point, you're driving a Civic. Above it, you're driving a Type R. Close-ratio five-speed, limited-slip diff, very little weight. Nothing between you and the mechanical reality of what's happening. This is where the Civic Type R lineage starts. Everything after it - the EP3, the FN2, the FK8, the FL5 - traces back to this formula.
