About the S2000

Honda built the S2000 to celebrate its 50th anniversary and accidentally created the best naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine ever put in a production car. The F20C in the AP1 revved to 9,000 rpm, made 240 hp from two liters with no forced induction, and had a specific output of 120 hp per liter. In 1999. Rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual, 50/50 weight distribution, and a soft top that folded down in seconds. The S2000 was Honda's only mid-front-engine rear-drive car, and they made it count. The AP1 was the razor: high-strung, demanding, and rewarding. The AP2 traded some rev ceiling for low-end torque and became the better daily driver. Both weighed under 1,300 kg. Production ended in 2009. Honda hasn't made anything like it since.
