About the Sportage KM
The KM Sportage was Kias pivot from cheap and cheerful to something approaching respectable. Launched in 2004 on a platform shared with the Hyundai Tucson, it dropped the body-on-frame layout of the original for a unibody that immediately improved ride quality and handling. The 2.7 V6 option gave it genuine power, and the interior — while still behind Honda and Toyota — was miles ahead of what Kia had offered before. This was the generation that got Kia into consideration sets where they had previously been invisible.
