About the Altima L34
Fifth-gen Altima, and Nissan went big on value. The L34 got the QR25DE 2.5-liter making 179 hp and the VQ35DE 3.5-liter V6 at 270 hp. The V6 was the one that made the Altima interesting, paired with a six-speed manual in the SE-R and Coupe trims. A mid-size sedan with a 270-hp V6 and three pedals. Nissan was doing things Honda and Toyota wouldn't. The CVT on four-cylinder models was Nissan's Xtronic and it was divisive, rubber-band feel that bothered some and that others never noticed. The interior was a step up from the L33 with better materials and more tech. The coupe looked sharp from every angle. The L34 Altima was the last one that offered a manual with the V6. Nissan hasn't done anything that bold with the nameplate since.
