About the Clio RS Mk3 (197/200)
The Clio grew up and got complicated. The third-generation RS was bigger, heavier, and carried 197 hp from a revised F4R. It had ESP. It had five seats. Renault Sport was apparently trying to be responsible. But the chassis saved it. A wider track, stiffer subframe, and a Cup suspension option that turned the polite hot hatch back into something feral. The 2009 facelift bumped power to 200 hp and added a Cup chassis that most buyers ticked immediately. It was the last naturally aspirated Clio RS, and it knew how to say goodbye. That 7,100 rpm power peak was Renault Sport reminding everyone what a high-revving four-cylinder was supposed to feel like before turbos smoothed all the edges away.
