The GE STI moved to a 2.5-liter EJ25 and added 55 hp over the GD. 305 hp through Subaru's symmetrical AWD with DCCD, a six-speed manual, and the widest body the Impreza had worn yet. The hatchback variant split the community — heresy to sedan loyalists, perfect for everyone else. The GE was the most capable STI to date: faster, wider, more planted.
