About the Camry XV50
Toyota gave the Camry a mid-cycle refresh that mattered more than the initial launch. The XV50 got the 2AR-FE 2.5-liter at 178 hp and the 2GR-FE 3.5 V6 at 268 hp. The hybrid returned with 200 combined hp and 41 mpg. The SE trim added sport suspension and a more aggressive look that Camry buyers didn't know they wanted. The interior was adequate. Materials were competitive, the layout was functional, and the rear seat had class-leading legroom. The XV50 didn't win comparison tests against the Accord or Mazda6 because it wasn't trying to. It was trying to be the car that suburban families bought without overthinking it, and Toyota sold over 400,000 a year because the formula worked. Dependable, comfortable, invisible. The Camry at its most Camry.
