The E110 Corolla arrived in 1995 looking rounder, softer, and more anonymous than anything before it. Critics called it boring. Owners called it reliable. Both were right. The 4A-FE and 1ZZ-FE engines asked for nothing but oil changes and gave back hundreds of thousands of trouble-free kilometers. In North America, this was the generation that cemented Corolla as the default answer to the question of what car to buy when you just want a car that works. It worked.
