About the Land Cruiser FJ60

The FJ60 was Toyota's answer to a question nobody in marketing would have asked: what if a Land Cruiser could be a family car? The 60 Series took the FJ40's go-anywhere capability and wrapped it in a body with four doors, air conditioning, and enough interior space to qualify as a living room. The 2F inline-six was a 4.2-liter pushrod engine that made more torque than horsepower and more noise than either. It was bulletproof, agricultural, and perfectly suited to low-speed crawling over terrain that would strand anything with a unibody. The FJ62 upgrade brought fuel injection, a slightly more refined drivetrain, and creature comforts that made long-distance overlanding survivable. The 60 Series was the Land Cruiser that bridged the gap between the utilitarian FJ40 and the luxury-leaning 80 Series that followed. It could tow a boat, climb a mountain, and take the family camping — all in the same weekend, without complaint. On Revnut, the community ranks Toyota's most versatile off-roader.
