The 3F-E added electronic fuel injection to the pushrod inline-six formula and paired it with an automatic transmission. 155 hp and 295 Nm through a four-speed auto — still not fast, but more refined and more driveable than the carbureted FJ60. Cold starts improved dramatically. Fuel economy improved marginally. The FJ62 was the same Land Cruiser, made more civilized for people who wanted to use it as a daily driver. The purists preferred the manual. Everyone else preferred starting on the first crank.
