About the GR86
Toyota and Subaru built the affordable rear-drive sports car that everyone said the market didn't need. The first-gen 86 (ZN6) arrived in 2012 with a 200 hp naturally aspirated boxer-four, weighed 1,240 kg, and cost less than a loaded Camry. It wasn't fast. That was the point. The second-gen GR86 (ZN8) fixed the one complaint: the FA24 bumped displacement to 2.4 liters, torque filled in at 3,700 rpm instead of 6,400, and the car actually pulled out of corners. Still manual, still rear-drive, still under 1,300 kg, still under $30k. The car that keeps the analog sports car alive.
