About the Supra 2.8 DOHC (168 Hp) RWD
The 5M-GE was the engine that gave the Supra lineage its first real claim to sports car status. Twin-cam, 24-valve, 2.8 liters — it revved freely and made 168 hp at a time when most Japanese sixes were still running single cams. Paired with a five-speed manual and rear-wheel drive, the A60 could hold its own against the 280ZX Turbo on a back road. The digital instrument cluster added theatre. The double-wishbone suspension added competence.
