About the Polo Mk4
The Polo Mk4 ran for over a decade and went from forgettable to genuinely good along the way. The 9N platform brought the 1.4 FSI at 86 hp and the 1.8T GTI at 150 hp, the first Polo that could honestly call itself a hot hatch. The facelift 9N3 tightened up the front end and improved interior quality. The GTI Cup Edition got 180 hp and a proper limited-slip diff. Build quality was solid VW, tight panel gaps and materials that held up well over time. The base cars were sensible city transport. The GTI variants were the ones that punched above their weight on a B-road. The Mk4 Polo proved VW could make a supermini that felt premium without asking premium prices. It just took them a few facelifts to get there.
