About the Challenger
The Challenger died in 1974, resurrected in 2008, and refused to die again for fifteen years. The third-generation LA platform was a muscle car throwback: 4,000+ pounds, rear-wheel drive, a supercharged HEMI V8, and styling that made no attempt to look like anything other than a 1970 muscle car. The Hellcat made 717 hp. The Demon made 840 hp on race fuel. The Demon 170 made 1,025 hp on E85 and became the fastest quarter-mile production car ever built. Dodge's final act with the internal combustion Challenger was making the most powerful muscle car in history, running a 1.66-second 0-60, and daring anyone to call it outdated.
