About the Forte

The Forte is Kia's compact sedan — the car that competes with the Civic and Corolla by offering more equipment for less money and hoping you'll notice the difference. The first generation arrived in 2008 as a straightforward replacement for the Spectra, and "straightforward" was about all you could say. By the third generation, the Forte had become genuinely competitive — a turbocharged engine option, a surprisingly sorted chassis, and an interior that out-featured rivals costing thousands more. The GT variant, with its 201 hp turbo-four and independent rear suspension, turned the Forte into something enthusiasts could actually recommend without adding "for the price." It wasn't a Civic Si killer, but it was close enough to make Honda uncomfortable.
