About the C-Class
The C-Class is the car that built Mercedes-Benz's modern sales empire — the entry point to the sedan lineup and the model that outsells everything else with the star on its hood. The W202 arrived in 1982 as the 190-Class replacement and immediately established itself as the smaller, sportier alternative to the E-Class. The W203 sold in massive numbers but earned a reputation for cost-cutting that dented the brand's quality image. The W204 corrected course. The W205 was the breakthrough — lighter, sharper, and with an interior that borrowed liberally from the S-Class. The AMG lineage gives the C-Class its enthusiast credibility. The C 63 AMG's hand-built V8 — first the 6.2L naturally aspirated M156, then the twin-turbo 4.0L M177 — turned a luxury sedan into a tire-shredding weapon. The current C 63 S E Performance switched to a hybrid four-cylinder, and the debate about whether that counts has been loud. On Revnut, the C-Class generations compete for the title of the compact luxury sedan that got it right.
