The Evo IV was the first with the active yaw control (AYC) that made the Evo feel like it was reading your mind through the corners. The 4G63T made 280 hp (the gentleman's agreement number), but the real story was the chassis: stiff, balanced, and so responsive that rally drivers said it felt like a smaller car. 1,350 kg with AWD and a turbo four.
