The one that started the fight. Renault Sport's first crack at a proper Clio RS arrived in 1999 with a 2.0-liter F4R engine, 172 hp, and a kerb weight that started with a nine. It didn't look like much. A small three-door hatch in Liquid Yellow, sitting on modest alloys. But the chassis told a different story — direct, communicative, and willing to rotate if you asked nicely. The Cup version dropped the ABS, the air conditioning, and the fog lights. It weighed 1,011 kg. Renault Sport was already telling you exactly what this car was about: less stuff, more driving.
