About the Yaris

The Yaris is Toyota's city car — small, efficient, and in GR form, one of the most exciting cars Toyota has built in twenty years. The standard Yaris story is straightforward: a supermini that sold millions across Europe and Asia by being cheap, reliable, and small enough to park in spaces that would make a Corolla driver weep. Three generations of honest, no-drama transportation. Nobody wrote enthusiast reviews. Nobody needed to. Then Toyota dropped a 1.6L three-cylinder turbo with 257 hp, all-wheel drive, and a close-ratio six-speed manual into the Yaris body shell and called it the GR Yaris. It was a homologation special for WRC that happened to be street legal — the kind of car manufacturers stopped making a decade ago. Stiffer than a hot hatch, faster than cars costing twice as much, and built in limited numbers because Toyota's Gazoo Racing division apparently won an argument with the accounting department.
