About the Passat
The Passat is Volkswagen's executive sedan — the car that splits the difference between a Golf and an Audi A4 and does it well enough that both segments should be nervous. Since 1973, the Passat has been the autobahn commuter's choice: comfortable at 200 km/h, frugal on the diesel pump, and built with the kind of solidity that makes you close the door twice just to hear the thunk. It's never been exciting. It's been better than exciting — it's been competent in a way that grows on you over years of ownership. The B5 generation shared its platform with the Audi A4 and brought a level of sophistication the Passat had never seen. The B6 and B7 refined it. The B8 added enough technology to compete with cars wearing premium badges. The W8 engine option in the B5.5 was Volkswagen at their most ambitious and least rational — a narrow-angle W8 in a family sedan because engineers sometimes win arguments. On Revnut, the Passat ranks where daily competence meets quiet overachievement.
